Here are our tips:
- Get advice from a specialist retailer when buying so that the helmet is tailored to the shape of your head and your needs
- The helmet should be comfortable to wear. This also includes effective ventilation slots for cooling.
- The helmet should protect the forehead, but not be pulled so far forward that it obstructs the view. There should be around two finger widths between the base of the helmet and the bridge of the nose.
- To check whether you have set the correct circumference with the head ring at the back of the head, bend forward with the chin strap open: the helmet should not fall down.
- Make sure that the straps do not cover your ears.
- If you have had an impact with the helmet, buy a new one - even if you cannot see any external damage.
- Do not buy a used helmet unless you know for sure that it has no accident damage.
- If the helmet has reached its expiry date, also buy a new one: there is a risk of material fatigue.
